You can file your income tax returns online in the comfort of your home. Also it is not necessary to go to income tax office to get the acknowledgment.
You can send the acknowledgment that you will get after uploading the return (ITR V) by ordinary post and the IT department will process it and send you the mail confirmation.
Here is the procedure for e-filing IT returns.
1. Visit https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/portal/index.do
2. Register yourself using your PAN card number.
3. Download the Excel software where you need to fill the details of your income based on your Form 16.
4. Generate the XML file just by clicking a button in Excel file.
5. Again log on to https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/portal/index.do with your PAN card number and password.
6. Upload the XML file generated.
7. After succesful upload, you will get the acknowledgment in ITR V form.
8. Send this form after signing to given address by ordinary post only.
You will get the response from IT department by email which will be your proof of filing IT returns.
